2000BMW323i is an unknown quantity at this point
My Car was sitting for a day, It rained a little for a few days. In the morning before I went to work, First I started the car to warm it up, then when I got in to put it in reverse and as I started to back up there was a big popping noise that came from the back of the car like the drive shaft or something. I actually thought my tire blew out or something. THe car drives fine it was just weird Thought something broke. don't it was. When cold it always seems hard to shift into reverse. anyone know whats going on?

Could it be that the popping noise is the transmission? There is a simmilar problem like yours, where owners hear the popping noise coming from the rear. This only happens when the car comes to a complete stop though. The solution to that problem is the transmission needs to be reset. I'm not sure if this is the same problem as yours.

It could also be that when you let go of the brake, you get that "popping" noise as well.

I highly suggest you take it in.

Hope I helped.

does it only make the popping noise at low speeds in revers or does it do it at low speeds in drive also? and do you have aftermarket wheels? i have seen where people get after market wheels and lug bolts and the lug bolts are actually too long and can make contact with the parking break and make all sorts of horrible noises.

It was a one time noise, when I put the car in reverse and started to back up like something was stuck and it broke free. what do you mean by having your transmission reset? I have a manual if that means anything.
