Ventilation Systme Goes On When Car Is Started

I have a 2000 BMW 323I and each time I start the car the ventilation system goes on regardless if I have switched off when I turn off the car. Is there a setting I can do to set it on OFF?? Let me turn it ON when when I need it too??

Not that I'm aware off, not that I know anything. This was our number one complaint upon test driving the 3 series was "Can you disable that 'feature'?" Every salesman that we asked said "No", but that doesn't mean that it is not possible.

If it is possible, I too, would like to disable that feature.

Actually there were numerous threads on this and some people have cars where the climate control doesnt go on everytime you start the car.I am kinda pissed off at that too but what i learnt was that the dealer can reprogramm this to not happen just that it would cost a little bit o $$$$$. Its doable I think but from the dealer and right now its not a high priorityfor me to spend cash on so am waiting for some time before I get it done. ghead

Should we all band together and write a massive email or letter to BMW of N.A. for the quick fix. I also heard from my car mechanic that it's just a reprogram of the "Key" as your key does a lot other things then just start the vehicle. Hummm, wonder if that's just a gimmick that Bimmer do to get our ass in their showroom for an updated vehicle. I just went to my Bimmer place and thought of upgrading to a 5 Series...damn them!! :-)))

There are "key memory" and "car memory" features that the dealer can fix for about $45. If you do a search on this you can find the various features. You really need to read the list of options first so you can tell the dealer what to do. The various options are a little out there. Ventilation-on at start is not the deault if I remember correctly, so the previous owner had this set that way.
