after several repair attempts for car stalling, esp when on hills, and parallel parking, the dealer FINALLY says they discovered it is in transport mode, which apparently is to prevent truck transport drivers from having access to full power when loading and unloading.
does anyone know what this really is, and what effect it might have on the car long-term? It is a manual shift and I've really had to almost burn the clutch on hills to make it keep from stalling. Dealer says no problems from it, but of course, he'd say that
I've never even heard of 'transport mode.' Did they tell you how it is activated? Was it an error of the Vehicle Processing Center that it was never shut off?
I think it is programmed in the factory and suspect the dealer is to deprogram. they said the timing is retarded to lower accelleration. It was running fine, except the problems stated. I did complain about only getting up to 40 mph at 5000 rpm in 2nd gear. seemed like there was plenty of power, just not enough speed. seemed unacceptable for a bmw to have to be in 3rd gear to get above 40. any ideas how I can find out from bmw about transport mode and any damage that may have been done?
WTF???? Transport mode? Is someone yanking yur chain or somethin? I would march up to the dealer throw the key on his face and tell him to either get even with me or bloidy well give me a new vehicle....you paid top dollar for a top car bud (and its s a manual so I guess speed is your thing) and if you aint getting yur money's worth I say screw it and give it back. I wouldnt drive it for a day more and do something about it............its like getting a cessna that has "flying limitations" like one wing...........baloney. You buy a car for TRANSPORTATION UNLIMITED not being transportation limted........... ghead

Hey, I want YOU to go to the dealer. I haven't picked it up yet, assume it is fixed, but I've had a year (I mis-typed 04 it's and 03) of problems and now worries that this has taken a toll on all systems, which is why I am trying to get info on transport mode (I know it exists, have found references on google but nothing good at explanation) and what driving it for 20k will do to it all. Thanks for the encouragement for being outraged!
I woud luv to get my hands on a stinkin dealer and set these people right. I am no gearhed nor I am a engine junkie but there are sumthings that even a layman can understand like ummm "here is your 30K car sir but ummmm we have ummm a condition that yu will be able to only go up to :cough: 40 miles an hour :cough: in this but rest is all hunky dory"......yeah right......I wish I cud but all I can hope is that yu give this dealership some from me too.....and dont DONT settle for less man. You want a BMW yu SHOULD get a COMPLETE BMW not one thats 60 mph short. issed2" class="inlineimg" /> ...........ALL THE BEST MAN......
Thanks again for the input. Still wondering if anyone out there has heard of "transport mode" and what damage might be done driving in it. anyone think another dealer would give me the straight dope about it?
