Which Transmission? New 330cic - BMW Forum

I need advice on the transmission choices for a new 330 CI Convert

I've been offered choice of 6 sp, SMG or Auto. I know the diff of 6 sp or Auto of course. Anyone like the SMG or is it no good??

i drove a Z4 with the SMG witch is the same SMG that is in the 3's.
i was not impressed at all. it was basically like the Auto in the steptronic mode only slightly harder shifts but barely. the SMG in the M3 is a totally diffrent animal. i would definatly get the SMG in an M3 but after driving that Z4 i'd rather get the regular 6sd in a Z4 or E46. just seems like a big waste of money

Im kinda getting tierd of driving my stick shift cuz of traffic otherwise its the best. I am planing on trading my car in for an auto. Dont wanna spend the money on a new one with SMG

I just read an article in a recent Road and Track(I think) on the SMG in the Z4. Basically, they loved the car but totally trashed the tranny! Often they had to restart the engine, to reboot the tranny, just to get it in gear. Unless and until they get that mess straightened out I know I won't touch it. I'm a manual guy but I concede they can be a hassle in an everyday hectic commute.
