I am assuming you have a manual car. If so slow your shift down and let he syncronizers do their magic. It seems that you are not getting fully into 2nd gear. I have this occasionally when I try to shift to fast. The car is jumping out of second gear and into neutral correct? If slowing the shift down does not help then something is amiss internally with the gear box.
