Im looking for some advice/experience with this problem.
I have a 2002 325Ci Supercharged, and plenty of mods. Well the other day, I heard this thumping noise coming from under the center console. Well I got the car home and lifted it up and found a rubber... spacer (I guess)..between the transmission and the drive shaft, its about and inch wide and it was all tore up. Im pretty sure thats what is making the noise. But Im tryin to figure out what it is and if it would be a warrenty item since my car is now supercharged. Im also haveing a problem with second gear always grinding, which from past experience Im almost positive it is a syncronizer issue. In my other car, 2000 323i I had to have my whole transmission replaced because of the same problem, that was before the devestating rear subframe tear that seems to be going around lately. Any advice or past experience with this sort of problem would help before i go to the dealer. thanks
The spacer that you found is part of the center carrier bearing. The bearing is pressed onto the driveshaft, the rubber fits over the bearing, and a metal ring is fit over the rubber and then mounted to the car. The dealer has grounds to not warranty the item due to the addition of the supercharger which voids the powertrain warranty. You may get lucky and they might cover it but don't expact them to.

Thanks Mack 5 for the info. If its not covered, is this something that will cost thousands of dollars, or is it possible to replace something like that myself, being pretty good at mechanics?
It should be several hundred dollars but not thousands. if you have access to the correct presses and keep the driveshaft alighned you could do it yourself. Remember that driveshafts are balanced and need to remain in the same orientation when reassembled.
