Transmission downshifts when letting off accelerator - BMW Forum

Recently purchased a 99 323i and love it. Recently my trans feels a little different. It feels as if the Transmission downshifts when letting off accelerator. It also feels a little more noticeable when shifting while driving.

Guys have any input for such an issue. I've had a dodge durango which had somewhat of the same issue and it was resolved by adjusting a tv cable.

Any input??

are you putting the car in sport mode? If so the car will downshift for you at certain times.

Is this only happening at highway speeds? If it feels like it "jumps" or something goes loose for a second at speed then it might be you torque convertor going out.

How does it shift between gears under regular acceleration?

It feels as if something is engaging and slowing you down as if you were shifting down with a manual transmission. It also is during normal acceleration and while coming to a stop. Foot off the pedal and going for the brake or just coasting. I have a base model 323i with our a sport option also.
