I have a 2001 3 series coupe with a BMW sat nav system which takes only the CDs (not the new DVDs). The original GB Road Map CD (2001-2) does not allow the TMC function to work. I have also used a Benelux CD (2002-2) in Europe and the TMC function did work while I was there.
I have enquired with BMW UK about the functionality of the TMC. They say, the only way it will work in the UK is if I used the new DVD road mapp which supports the function. I do not understand why the updated 2004 GB CD will not allow it to work even though the European maps on CD do support the function in Europe. Can anyone confirm this or is there a way around this problem, without changing my system to read the new DVD ROMS which is rather expensive?

My dealer say a later CD might work. But they can't say for sure. So I would have to buy on a gamble.

The dealers are just as in the dark as we are. I sent an email to BMW Europe who informed me it is purely the case that the CDs that are supplied to BMW do not have the TMC codes on - even the newer ones. I havefound out that Tele Atlas do supply UK CDs that are compatible with BMW factory installed nav systems do include the TMC function. This is not obvious from the product listing, because their website is not updated. I called them and indeed confirmed this to me. I am just waiting another couple fo weeks until the latest update is released. Cost aprox £100. I recommend you call them to confirm. Go to www.teleatlas.com and then the link for the shop.
