Timing guide has snapped!!

Please can someone advise me, I have a 316is -E46, been told that the timing guide has snapped! What are the chances of the pistons being damaged, would I be better off just buying a new used engine. The car has done only 63000 miles, It's a 2002.

Take the head off and see what damage has occured you maybe lucky and only bent some valves....

Thanks. If the valves are damaged/bent can you get these replaced for minimal cost? Can the vehicle run without replacing the damaged ones? It needs a new timing guide, if it needs valves changed will there be a lot of other potential parts damaged?
Because I was going slow at time I hoped it would not have done much. thanks

you're best course of action would be for a profesional to look at it. doesn't have to be a bmw dealer but should be a mechanic familiar with bmws
