Ticking noise from the engine and smell from exhaust
Hi guys,
Some advice please. My car , BMW 318 d has recently started to make a ticking noise from the engine and a smell coming from the exhaust. Any ideas what this could be.
Is the ticking related to the revs of the engine? Can you isolate the source of the noise? Engine or exhaust, or something like a cracked fan belt or pulley?
What sort of smell are you getting?
Aren't desiel cars louder and more smelly than gasoline powered cars?
My car makes a ticking noise when I beat on it on the track. My mechanic says its the hydraulic lifters. About 20mins normal driving it goes away.
