Thumping Noise 325i -Need Help

Hi Everybody,

I have a problem with my '01 325i. At speeds over 30 mph there is a thumping noise coming from the right rear wheel. According to BMW I had to replace the tires, which I did. The sound is still there, however, and it's quite annoying. It especially makes the noise in longer bends to the right with higher speeds. Does anyone have a clue what it might be?

Sounds like it might be a wheel bearing. You state that it gets worse when you turn right, does it almost disappear when you turn left? Without actually hearing it that is my best guess.

Thanks. Yes, it disappears pretty much when I make a left.

I had a similar problem on my 02 325i sport. when turned right i could hear a scrape like the wheel is scraping the arch. but i dont have it lowered yet.

I have a similar problem how much would a new wheel bearing cost?

Check your rear upper shock mounts for any sign of wear "Big Crack". Most often you can that thumping sound on unstable ground. Those shock mounts take a beating especially when they are made out of rubber and they go bad quick. If thats the problem try investing in some Urethane ones.
