Thoughts on this car?

Woman has a 2003 330i for sale. The ad says:

2003 BMW 330i. Clean title. car runs but needs work. $4800 o.b.o. Car has 139k miles. Serious inquiries and price negotiable only in person so please don't waste my time nor yours.

Heres the link: 2003 BMW clean tittle

When I asked "what work needs to be done".

she responded with: "By work I mean mechanic said it might need a new thermostat or radiator or a bad Sensor but for him to really diagnose it he wants a lot of money and I don't have the money.. The tags are up so the one time I drove it the temp was going up so it runs and fires up."

What do you guys think? Anyone want to take guesses at what the problem is and the cost of repair?

Overheating isnt a good sign, but can usually be fixed for fairly decently. Now if its just the thermostat thats stuck open then the part is like $50. Its not that intensive to diagnose an overheating issue. However if the car has been overheated and the headgasket blew your looking at a $1,000 repair because of the labour time it takes to remove and reassemble the head. The gasket is $70. But the labour adds the rest.

If your interested, get it inspected. Unless your a certified mechanic and your willing to gamble with your cash, not getting an inspection is silly.

As far as it looks, i'd say it is in a pretty great shape. You might wanna get it checked via a mechanic before getting to purchase it.
