Question Testing a water pump

I've been having a leaking problem somewhere from the coolant container to the radiator and I can't figure out where the hell its coming from. I've tested just about everything I can think of, except the water pump and the radiator plug. I have no idea how to test a water pump though. So could someone give me a quick crash-course in water pump testing on a '92 325i?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

LOS is an unknown quantity at this point
There is an orange stuff you can purchase. You add this to the radiator/reservoir and run the car, you'll even see it in the dark. You can purchase this stuff at a parts store. This is how my dealer found a leak on my car. Sorry I can't be more of help. Maybe someone has additional info regarding the product.
