| You *may* have damaged your ambient temperature sensor; although it normally reads -40°F. If you look under your front bumper, immediately in front of the driver's side tire; you should see a needle type sensor. If you dont or it looks damaged, then you need to replace it. Its a ~$40 part and is easy to install.
This is just an idea... Since your problem sounds different from the normal.
