Synthetic Oil

Does everyone use synthetic oil?

could i just ask a question also connected to the above my 2004 325i has the synthetic oil as above and the dealer told me that it is good for 15000 miles. never used synthetic before it scares the crap out of me to drive that far between changes would appreciate input from users of same thanks guys.

I use mobil 1 synthetic.

I dont think it is a good idea for you to go 15000 between changes either. I have only seen some that claim their oil is good for 4000 miles and I personally wouldnt do that either. Mine gets it every 2500-3000, period.

Is it recomended by BMW to use synthetic? I just got mine changed and had them put synthetic in, Mobil 1. I do mine every 5000.

Once a year for me I use it Mobil 1. ie thats if you do it yourself spend 50 dollars for oil and filter . Most car manufacturs are increaseing there oil change intervals from 3k to 5k or more. One example is my family owns a 98 ford explorer w/v8 motor oil change interval is 5k with conventional oil . I was a little reluctant at first two when i saw the intervals on bimmers but i freqently check the oil and make sure it is not low and for one year or about 10k on my computer i have not added any oil. You might as well put conventional oil in if you are going to change every 3k 5k miles. thats my opinion you are just wasting your money.Synthetic when its designed for extreme conditions. . Check and replace once a year is what i do and have not had any problems.

BMW recommends using only synthetic oil. However, you can go 15000 miles between oil changes. That's what I'm doing, but I change my oil filter every 7500 miles.

The 15k service intervals for the newer cars REQUIRES synthetic oil. Regular oil shouldn't be run that long.
