Sun Roof Off Track

2003 325i. Had it 2 weeks and the sun roof started making this awful noise when we tried to open it today. A couple of attempts to close it and it apparently popped back on the track and shut. Seems to be OK now. Is this a common problem? It's going into the shop next week because the antenna wasn't hooked up to the stock radio when the previous owner's aftermarket sound system was removed, so I'll also present it to the dealer. We have CPO warranty until 50K...

yes it is a very common problem..but an easy fix

Do you mean just popping it back on track? Or will it eventually get to the point where I need to change out the track, like a window regulator?

im pretty sure it is the sunroof clips that are broken. (it also could be your window regulator)

the sunroof shade first gets off track and if lucky, it will go back and stay okay.

if not, the clips will break. these clips are found on either side of the sunshade.

you will need to replace the clips and get the sunshade on track.

it could be your window regulator that is making the noises, or it could be the sunshade/clips.

you should look along the sunroof track to see if there are anything blocking it...or perhaps some evidence of broken clips.

Well, the dealer found nothing wrong. I'll have to take a peak myself...
