SULEV and extended warranty question

I just bought a SULEV 3-series. I can buy an extended warranty from a third-party company that does not cover the emissions system for $1,800, or I can buy a BMW warranty for $2,800 which does. I live in Maryland. BMW doesn't have a special warranty for SULEV cars registered in Marlyand. I'll keep the car for 5 years / 90k miles. Is it worth spending the extra $1000 on the BMW warranty because of the SULEV system? Is it worth spending the extra on the BMW warranty for other reasons? Thanks.

Do you need to comply with SULEV in Maryland? If not, I wouldn't pay the extra $1000. Just my two cents.

Thanks - Maryland doesn't require cars to meet SULEV. I was worried about the reliability of the SULEV system and the prospect of getting stuck with a big repair bill for it down the road.

Fuel tank is a somewhat commona failure and the tank is $5k for the part alone not including labor. I think the BMW warranty is worth it.
