After i start my car the first time each day, theres always a very distinct hum of what sounds like pumps filling tubes or something.
I'm not very concerned with it unless I should be. Just sounds like the car warming up after sitting, but then again, I could be wrong. Usually lasts from 30 seconds to 2 or 3 minutes.

Heh, knowing the German engineers, there is probably something programmed into the computer that checks for self-destruct sequences and flicks on check engine light before it blows up in your face.

maybe its pcv crankcase valve used . I was having a noise evertime i started my car up and later it would quite down. Try opening your oil cap for just a second and see if the noise stops. This part for me at dealership was 45 dollars i thought i could replace it myself but its underneith the intake manifold long story short could not do it 350 dollars later at dealer it works fine no more noise. my 2 cents of rambling..
