Wondering if the stock system ( 2001 320i) has rca out so i can install subs and have rca outputs to my amp. Want to keep the stock deck, looks classy.

There are no RCA outs on the stock deck. However, many amps will allow speaker level input (as I am using). I intend changing the stock deck sometime but with good components in the front, and a sub in the back the sound is good enough that there in no rush.

I have a 04 325 and I just had some subs and a amp added with no problem. They just taped off the factory amp.

Don't know what kind of subwoofer you are looking at but in my 2001 325ic I used the JL Audio stealthboxes and loved it.

hey pmb and magicmike,

are you running ur sub amp off the rear speaker channels, or off the trunk "subwoofers" that are stock in the upgraded speaker system? do you know if the rear subwoofers are actually subwoofers, or are they mid bass woofers that are high passed and low passed? do you know if the main speakers are high passed or if they take a full range signal? i definately dont wanan hook up my sub amp to something that is high passed, so its good to know.

Mine runs off the rear deck speaker outputs (rear speakers are disconnected). The ront speakers I have upgraded to Macrom 250SE (fairly high end). The amp and sub are Rockford Fosgate.

It sounds good enough for the moment. I am in no hurry to replace the head unit.

By the way, the system in the stock Business system that has 6 speakers and no external amps.

I was looking to get either JL audio subs, two 10"s in a bandpass box or two 10" Solo Baric Kickers in a bandpass box. Both are high end and i want a good signal going to the amp. Not sure what amp i should get.

btw- how much room do you think ill have left in the trunk after this?
