Steptronic Clunk - BMW Forum

About a month ago, I purchased a used 02 330ci with Steptronic. I'm experiencing a "clunk" when the Steptronic shifts into 1st. It only occurs on the downshift from 2nd to 1st (at approximately 10 mph) while braking to a stop. It is decidedly noticable when the car is cold; after the transmission warms up from 15 - 20 minutes of driving, it is less noticable.

Anyone else notice this? I've never had a BMW or Steptronic transmission, so I'm not sure if what I'm noticing is a problem or "just the way it is".

I've got the same car - not the same problem though. Although the gearbox is very slow to respond to the steptronic

changes.

I had a 2001 325i with the same problem. The transmission control module
had to be reprogrammed. I'm in CT and I'm pretty sure the module was
sent to NJ for the fix. I know I had a loaner car for several days. Hopefully
you are still under warranty.

I had the same problem with mine. here is the link to my original thread on this. maybe you will need your software reprogrammed. that fixed mine.
