Who did you that using the steptronic eases brake life?

In SD mode, the car will at the optimum rpm's downshift to help slow the car. In M mode, you can select the rpm in which to downshift, also helping slow the car. Keep in mind that if you attempt to down shift into a gear which would cause an overrev, the computer will not allow your selection.

this steptronic thing in s mode even tries to engine brake for you...., try just coasting to a stop from high speed, you'll feel it tug as it downshifts.
