what do the squares on bmw bumpers do exactly, i always see them on 330xi's and 325s and wondered what they did, i can't find anything on the net about them, are they reverse sensors

I believe the reverse sensors are round. The squares are usually the tabs which hide the socket in which you put the tow attachment (the eye-bolt used to fasten the car down).

yubyub is correct..the PDC sensors are round, where as the squares are the cover for the tow hook attachment.
