I live in the Northeast US. We obviously have horrible winters. Can anyone suggest a few snow tire brands that might help me in my first winter with my 2000 328i?
I found a review of a Dunlop tire, the SP Winter Sport m3, that was tested on a 328. They gave it a 8.5/10.
The Wintersport M3 is a good winter tire that also performs well on dry pavement. They're quiet and also wear well. I run 205/55 16 M3's on my 328 in the winter.

Peope have told me not to get a RWD vehicle because it would basically paralyze me in the winter. I know that it will not drive as well as an AWD or even a FWD, but how does your 328 perform in snow? Will I be able to drive at all?
I live in CT where there is usually plenty of snow/ice in the winter. I too had concerns about driving in the snow, but the winter tires performed very well. Some members don't bother with winter tires and say they don't have any problems. I wanted to err on the side of caution, I used to have other rear wheel vehicles and driving was a nightmare. I run the 16's instead of the 17's because they perform better than the wider 17's. I also carry 2 50lb. bags of sand in the trunk. You should buy 4 tires if you choose to go this way.

I'm in Salt lake City and just bought a 330xi. The salesman strongly suggested I invest in a set of Blizzaks. He drives a 330ci year-round and swears by them for winter.
I remember the blizzard of 96 i was with my dad in his 88' EldeBrock modded out Mustang...Anyway going up a hill it totally just fell back down. Rear wheel drive is the worst thing invented since a 4 foot wing on an asian import
I have a 2000 323i and have lived in Iowa until this year. Drove on the std tires for the past 2 winters and the car was basically a paperweight when it snowed. I recently moved to Milwaukee and have a 30 mile commute - so I'm definitely going with snow tires this winter. I'd at least recommend NOT trying to drive these cars in the snow without... and I'll let you know how this winter goes.
