Slow engagement from reverse to drive

When I back my 2004 325Ci out of the drive way slight incline) into the street, I notice a hesitation of engagement from reverse to drive. I step on the gas but don't go anywhere. Almost like it is slow to engage in the gearbox. Anyone else experienced this. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful.

Just a quick thought, how many miles? Has the transmission fluid been changed?

about 45K. I had a local shop check the trans fluid and they said the level was ok. Changing the fluid might be solution. Thanks for the thought.
