should I jump or stay away? - BMW Forum

Newbie here looking at my first BMW. I am looking at one for my 17 yr old to drive. It is a 2005 325xi with 200,000 on it. I have been driving it this weekend and really like the way it handles but here are the issues I have had. I had to reset the transmission it was in safe mode. I cleaned the car and the emergency flashers started up and eventually went off. They were on another time later on. Now the Service Engine Soon light just came on. They are asking $6,000 for it. What do you think? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Welcome to the Werkz.

If you are really sold on this car (apart from the issues). Is this for sale by a dealer? If it is, what warranty are they offering? Get an independant mechanic to look over it and pay him to do it properly, it may turn out to be the best money you spend, regardless of which way you go.

Not necessarily on this car. I like the BMW and feel it would be a good car for my daughter. I was looking at the xi just for the safety of winter driving. Am I thinking correctly? What years and models should I focus on? I don't want to spend a bunch of money but I know nothing is cheap these days.
