Question Shifting 1st to Second in 04 M3

We have a 2004 M3 only has 38k miles. Ever since new it has be kind of hard
to shift into second. We even noticed this on our 2000 M5. Is that common?
Do those 2 cars have the same tranny? What would it be?

Thanks,

Jamey
