I was installing my Ipod -- finally this weekend and it works great.. Anyone with questions, please message me.. I would be glad to tell you how I did it... The reason why I am posting this message is really because while I was taking some of the interior apart in my 328i sedan, I twisted the shifter knob and now it is loose.. Does anyone know how I could tighten it up again? I tried twisting it the other way and it doesnt seem to work.. any help would be appreciated!!!!! I am not sure if maybe I would have to replace something...
I thought the Ipod was supposed to interface through a connector in the glovebox? Or is that only in the newer models? I remember reading that Apple came out with an adapter but I didn't know it needed to be installed. Any clarification on that?

I have a 2000 328i and I had to install an AUX adapter to be able to play the IPOD. I hooked it up to the cd changer harness in the trunk and ran the "RCA to mini" cable to the cup holder where I have the IPOD. To listen to it, I just hit the CD button on the headunit and turn on my IPOD. Works like a charm.
The adapter in the glovebox comes with the new models. I think it is 2002 and newer....
In the process, I tried twisting the shifter knob when I was taking the car apart and now it is a bit loose. I am not sure how to fix that. I dont want to force it anymore until I know exactly how it comes out....
send me an email if you would like more details about the IPOD install I did.. Pretty simple and straight forward...
Since I have the plug in my glovebox it sounds like I could just hook up the aux adapter in my trunk for this to work...maybe?=) I was wondering where it installed and hoping it wouldn't interfere with a bluetooth module which I also want to do. Sounds like i'll be OK. I'd ask the dealer but they seem to know next to nothing about the bluetooth module. I figured they'd prolly know next to nothing about the I-pod install as well. ghead

I was able to remove the shift knob without a problem yesterday. For anyone trying to remove the shift knob from an automatic/steptronic, do the following:
1- pull the emergency break
2- place the car on neutral
3- hold the button on the shift knob and pull up
Yea, I got a 2000 328i and I did the install myself. Really easy.. Note: it is not the BMW/IPOD adapter. I used the BMWPILA adapter (i bought it from crutchfield.com) and it worked great. I do not see the track name son the dash, but I can control the volume from the wheel and everything looks stock/factory. That is what I wanted to do with the least amount of money. so the adapter was 99 dollars. and the Ipod was 399.
Kual.
So you can even change the tracks on the iPod from your wheel controls?
So, where exactly did you place this adapter? in the glove compartment?
Does this adapter work only with iPod?
