| Easiest if you put the stick into steptronic position. Just hold the button and pull up, with a little work, it should come off. Others have suggested taking a blowdryer to it before doing this, to loosen the glue.
Good luck, btw, may I ask what your are replacing it with? I have been loooking for a slick looking automatic shift knob... to no avail.
