On my 2004 330, the "shark fin" is the BMW Assist antenna

I think the fin is something to do with bluetooth or GPRS, and for the convertables its located in the bumper

Shark Fin is for the cellphone / BMW assist.
My car has the GPS option, and no cellphone.
It does not have the sharkfin.
