SES light came on again - BMW Forum

Hey guys I need some help,

I have a 2005 i325 model. My SES originally came on after 60000 miles (as expected) so I brought it to the dealer, the car was fine and they reset the light for me (and it was not cheap).

Now its been about 3000-4000 miles since then and I was at a red light the other day when the SES came back on again, should I be worried? I tried tightening the gas cap a few times but that did not seem to fix anything. We are also going through a pretty cold winter this season so is it a possibility that might have thrown off something in the system as well? I really dont feel like going to the dealer again, I have been to autozone before but they dont have the BMW codes so I feel as if this will be a waste again. Plus i have to drive about 600-1000 miles total this weekend so I am wondering if this is a good idea?

Im open for any suggestions...

Buy or borrow a obd code reader and find out what the codes for the problem are.

How much are obd readers around?

I also went to autozone today just for kicks and the obd port under my steering wheel would not connect to their obd reader. The mechanic said that my port was "loose" and needed to be pushed down more so that the reader fully connected with it. Im furious because the last time I brought my car to Autozone (right before I brought it to the BMW dealership) they had no problem using the obd reader on my car, so I guess maybe the dealership screwed with it?

Is there any way to fix this as well?
