Service Light?

The "Service Engine soon" light came on in my car and stayed on for 1 day and then went out. What does this light mean and now that it turned off, do i need to bring it in the shop?

Did you recently fill it up with gas? Make sure the cap is totally screwed on, or that light will come on.

It could mean anything. The ECU did find a fault in your engine somewhere, however after I believe 3 complete cycles of the engine, if it deos not see the fault again it will shut the light off. The error code will still be in your ECU but you will need a code reader to know what it is. If you plan on keeping your BMW for a while you should buy one, since it costs the same amount as bringing it to the shop for a diagnostic anyway.

Mine did the smae but it was about 300 miles before it was due for the 50K oil service. The light went off and no coded recorded at the dealer. If it goes out, there is nothing to worry about. But if it stays on....get it fixed
