Security system armed?

Hey I bought a black 2002 bmw 325i few months ago. But one thing I've noticed about other bmws is that the red circular security light on the bottom of the rearview mirror flashes when locked.... Mine doesn't. Does this mean that my anti-theft system is not armed when i lock the car? And if so... any suggestions?

Another interesting sidenote.... my car is completely silent when locking/unlocking. But my friend's 5 series (old model) beeps and the flashlights flash. Maybe it has something to do with the alarm too? Cuz I've never heard a peep out of my car since I've got it. Thanx.

Hey Jon,
That just means that you do not have an alarm system on your car. I dont either and it kinda bugs me. Ive heard that if you go to the dealership they can make the redlight flash and the car beep even though you do not have an alarm or you can just instal an alarm for like 300-500. However, BMWs are pretty hard to steal and you should be ok without an alarm. But hey, whatever floats your boat. I would just get them to activate the red light and "beep" notification. It will give your car the whole james bond feel...hahahaha

haha thanx man. that did help. maybe i will do that. can you do it ANY bmw dealership? because i did not get my car from a bmw dealership. i got it from a private used car dealership.
and also.. does it cost a lot of money (if at all) to make those changes?

I was about to write up a post on that too. My guess is that the stealership would charge you an ubsurd amt to activate the light and "beep."

It costs 1/2 hours labor in most cases, some members have been able to get their dealer to do it for free. Best way to do that i suppose, is to have them do a complete oil/filter change and then the computer adjustment; and say hey, i just spent ~120 bux getting something i coulda done myself! Hook me up.
