Security System

Can someone please describe the security system that comes standard on a 2005 325i. I have read the user manual, and it doesn't really say much.

Any reason to purchase an after market alarm system?

Yeah, they completely screw up the car.

We had a lady in with a Z4 with an after market alarm system...and the managers employees (Circuit City) didn't install it right. After awhile the passanger door wouldn't lock/unlock....had to un-install it and then re-program the whole car...after a couple hours....back to new...WITHOUT the after market alarm system....

So...moral of the story....don't get one!

None of the 3-series cars (except the M3) come with a standard alarm system, they kinda screw you there. The sales person will phrase it as "your car is pre-wired for a security system.
They point of the motion sensor, the red led that lets you know if your alarm went off when you were away from your car, etc... But what they don't tell you is that is a $500.00 option.
It sucks but if you want an alarm system I would just get one from the dealership, just for the reason that it's made for the car and your key will activate it, instead of carrying around an extra remote unit.

The red 'nose' blinks when the car is locked. is this a fake thing?

I guess the point of my question is do I need an alarm system or are the anti-theft devices on the car (dont really know what they are), are they good enough.
