Says oil service but needs inspection II

I have searched before posting, but to no avail.

I have a 2001 (UK 51Reg) 318ci SE.

It has 49,000 miles on the clock and has recently had a Oil Service. Looking at the service book its next service is the Inspection II.

However.. upon turning the ignition key it says 'OIL SERVICE' with about 15,000 left. This should be counting me down to 'INSPECTION II' surely?

How can i rectify this problem ?

When the service light is reset, you have a choice about what to reset the timer to keep track of. Next time you take it in for service, specify inspection II and explain that the light was incorrectly reset in the past.

On a 2001 there is only 1 way to reset the light. There is not a different procedure for oil service vs inspection, it just flips from 1 to the other each time you perform a reset. You can save yourself a trip to the dealer, just go to either Welcome to BMW Tips www.BMWTips.com or my site dtbmw.com and follow the tip for resetting the oil service lamps on 01 and later BMWs. Keep in mind that if the lights were just reset you will not be able to reset them again until 10 liters of fuel have been consumed. (2.5 gallons)

I have one remaining question. As it currently says 'oilservice' and the mileage left, and obviously i know it should say 'inspection2' with the mileage left.. when i reset it, do i select the 'INSPECTION' to reset?

you do not have to select either inspection or oil service it will choose for you. If you just follow the instructions on the tips page of my site it will walk you through the procedure. here is a direct link ...

thanks this worked on my 99 bmw 323i..oil service appears instead of inspection is this normal? or when will my inspection light come back up to show next inspection due?
