I am working on an 01 325i (E46), while cruising below 60mph the traction controle light turns, 1 sec later the brake light comeson, and 1 sec later the "EML" comes on. They are all yellow, and the car looses all power. If you shut the car off it goes away, but it will come back at completely random intervalls. The car has been tothe local BMW dealership and after the owner paying $400 all they could say was leave the car with us another week and we should be able to figure it out.
So my questions are:
Has anybody seen this before, if so what was the fix?
What does the EML light stand mean?
TIP: u can only fix electronic problems by way of using another computer as "it takes a computer to fix another computer", so to speak.... have the car scanned for codes and let's see what the DME/ECU tells us about what it is that ails the car;-)
just noticed that I left that part out... as or 3 weeks ago the only code to be thrown is that the engine is running rich, barrowed a maf for about two days from a friend of theowner and thecode didn't come back, but the three lights did at random intervals like usual... I wilo get the codes rechecked today and post them up...

thanks for your time,
you are a mech/auto tech working in a BMW shop? whereabouts are you?
I am truly sorry if there was any miss understanding, I am no BMW mechanic... Just a pretty good shade tree Mechanic trying to get a friends car running so his wife can get the store while he is in Afghanistan. The BMW dealership in my first post was the one in Nashville, TN. They had the car a week (leaving her with no transportation) and said we have no clue whats wrong with it but give us $483.63, and were sure if you leave it here for another week we can figure it out... On a side note, I did not get a chance to get the exact code number yet, but I will get it tomarrow and post it up, thanks.
