Can someone tell me if they have replaced a window motor and is doing it yourself a possibility? Can you also tell me how to be sure it is the motor because I can still hear the motor if I press the button. I think that it is a possibility someone slammed the door hard and could have caused the window to come off the track because the window fell down and I had to wedge something between the window and the frame to keep it up. If I can do it myself where can I get the motor and directions on how to do it. Any resonse is greatly appreciated. ghead
pop the door panel open first dude.. youll need a philips screw driver and a flat head with a rag attached to the flat part so not to hurt your door trim. take out all the screws and gently pry out the door panel from the door.

I know that the motor is rivited to the door so you would have to drill the rivits out. There are bolts that attach the window to the track. I would first look to see if the bolts are all in place prior to doing anything as you will mot likely have to take the glass out of the door to replace the motor. If the motor runs it is most likely the track you may have to buy the entire assembly though. I believe this in not an uncommon problem so someone who has had this happen please chime in.

the motor is NOT riveted to the door. The E46 window regulators are bmw's easiest ones to replace. And YES, the regulator needs replacing and not the motor. Typically the cables break inside those things or the plastic guide breaks and the cable comes loose. If you want a step by step instruction on how to do it then email or pm me and I will go through it... don't have the time right this second. The only pain in the but thing are having the right tools and getting the 8mm screws out of the window clamps. E46 regulators go out allllllll the time. I have done millions of them and would suggest getting used to replacing them.
