Does anyone have a remote starter on their BMW? Does anyone know if there is a dealer remote start installation? Any aftermarket remote starter made specifically for BMW's? ETC, ETC

Thanks,
Wosby

Hey guys,

There is no factory remote start available for any BMW model in the USA. You can have an aftermarket unit installed by a qualified installer however there is a drawback. ALL of the later model BMW's have the factory driveaway protection (EWS) fitted which requires a key with the correct transponder chip to start the car. In order to make the car start via remote this system must be disabled. This system is extremely effective as it doesnt only disable the starter but it disables the DME (engine control module) outputs for spark and injection control. So basically its a matter of what is more important to the user ..the protection....or the convenience. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dirty Tool. You've made a very valid point. I remember watching a show about car theft, where a retired (busted) car thief was now helping police catch theives. He said that most car theives stayed away from newer BMW's for the very same reason you just mentioned.

Awesome anti-theft device the Germans have built in.

Thanks,
Wosby

I have remote starter on both my bmw's 323 and 330, aftermarket is the only way, they have to use a module that stores one of your keys, perhaps the valet key, this module is hide inside the vehicle and reproduces the code while doing remote starter, if a intruder gets inside the car while running the alarm will go off and shuts down the vehicle, I have Viper install and the part number to work with is the 555U, check www.directed.com to learn more, I'll tell you is one of the best things you can do to your car... my brother just installed on his 2004 325.

Cool BMW Remote Starter

I installed a system in my BMW 2003 CiC from Bulldog model: RS82B got it at Advanced Auto Parts for $69

REMOTE STARTER by Bulldog Security - Part RS82B - Advance Auto Parts

Works great and has everything you need. Notes:

1. You will need an extra key that stays in the main unit, I used my valley parking key
2. Installation time is 2-3 hours, did everything myself and all worked great.

Good luck
