Does my 2000 E46 328Ci have a governor? If so, what's it set at?

most cars have govenors simply so you wont blow up the motor. It varies at what its set at depending on your cars engine specs and all. I know you can take it off, but i really dont know how. be careful.

Governor is a US thing, it is not so your engine doesn't blow up it is so you can't go past a certain speed. From Experience, I can tell you my bro's 328is goes 135 and stops, and our touareg goes 140...depends on the car, yours if probably around 135. It is a software thing, so if you get a preformance chip it goes away.

He's right....The device to avoid bowing your engine is a rev limiter the governor for euro cars are set limit the claims on warranties and mechanics and manufacturers are libel for vehicles traveling faster than they can safely in the event of a crash. In the US however, americal companies set it according to the type of tires placed on the vehicle (believe it or not). Just think about the cars that come out in the US with the same engines but are rated different.
