Rain Sensor

My friend just bought a 2003 330i with rain sensor installed. He tried to activate it and the wiper only turned once then off. Thinking it is the case of malfunction/defect, he took the car to the dealer today and found out the windshield is non BMW's and the rain sensor/component is built-in the windshield. Of course my friend does not want to replace the windshiled so now he will stuck with the inconvenience of not having a speed sensor for the wiper. Right now, if he turn it on fast, it keeps wiping at a fixed interval and will not slow down when the vehicle comes to a complete stop? Any help/suggestion? Thanks.

Well... where did he buy it? Have you heard of the "lemon law"? I don't know if that applies or not. Why would someone go out of their way to mess up the wipers? How long ago did he buy it?

He bought it about 4 weeks ago from a non-BMW dealership. He did not know the feature when he bought the car until he read the manual. I think the BMW dealership just does not want to repair/sevice cars from their lot. I thought lemon law is only applied for new car, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope, at least in CA, you can't lie to somone about the condition of a car. I don't know all of the details, but they should have to fix it or take the car back.
