I went to the dealer to get some warranty work done. I asked for a vehicle history report. I got a list of codes that represent work that had been done by BMW in the cars past. Here are the two codes that the guy said were tranny related and didnt know anything else. He said someone more familiar would know exactly.
Defect Codes:
3452051500 and 1113003700
They were both done within a few hundred miles of each other. My big question is are these defects that could give me some leverage on getting a free clutch? Car only has 40k and it does the 1-2-3 slip. (No CDV installed)
I wouldn't count on getting a clutch under warranty, especially if you aren't the original owner, and with that many miles. But, you never know.
I've put clutches in cars with under 5k miles, from people destroying them. BMW in those cases, will buy the first one, but the customer is on their own after that.
hmmm yeah that's like the time when I had an M5 come in with 3k miles and a smoked clutch. Guy swore up and down that he hadn't been beatin the crap out of the car. So after lengthy verbal lashings to the regional BMW rep and the Service manager, BMW and the dealership split the cost and charged the customer nothing (and I got rooked on the labor). Three months later the guy comes back, this time with 6.5k on the odometer, smoke bellowing from underneath the car, bald rear tires and clutch is practically welded to the flywheel and won't disengage. I raise the car up and have the trans out in 20 minutes. Guy hadn't even driven off in his rental yet. I call the service manager and the customer back to the shop. He went through his routine again and threw a fit. After explaining to him how a clutch works and that his brand new tires were mysteriously bald, he paid for his rental.. got in the car and left. Came back the next day with a brand new clutch and a fat bill.
don't know why I felt compelled to share that. Kinda funny though
