Question in regards to the 'open door' light...

Hello, I'm a noob here and I'm doing this for my sister. As I dont own one, I'm not very familiar with BMWs, and she's a girl...

My sister's car is a '04 325ci, E46, M54.

The little light on the dash that turns on letting you know that a door is open recently started staying full-time on. If I open any door it'll show me that a particular door is open but when I close it, it shows me that I closed that door but the entire car stays highlighted/lit.

Do you guys have any ideas of how I can fix it? I'm into Hondas, perhaps disconnecting the battery would reset the ECU like it does in Hondas, idk. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you for your time.

.Doc.

I can't veiw the pic (not your faul, I'm on GOV computers that block everything.). Is there any other light on or just the car. Yes you could try disconnecting the batt to reset the ECU, works the same way as your thinking. Other than that I don't know. Hopefully someone else does.
Good luck.

Yeah, in the pic, the car icon (as a view from above) is the only light on.

I can't remember, and being an ocean plus away from my car, is that supposed to remain lit? Or should the whole car deilluminate if there is nothing triggering it such as a door or light fault?

If memory serves it is suppose to go out if nothing is triggering it right?

Is that an actual picture of her dash?

If so then she needs to replace the blown light. It's the passenger side high or low beam or the turn signal...Once the bulb is replaced the dash light will turn off.

yeah that's the pic of her dash. I asked her if there were any lights burnt but you know how women are with cars, all they know how to do is put gas.. lol. I'll ask her again and make her run some tests... Thanks!

From experience...thats either a headlight or a turn signal.

The housing for the turn signal bulb (the thing that you put the bulb in to get power) tends to go bad. The contact on the inside tends to corrode. BMW remade the part so if you get a new one the problem should be fixed for a while. Or the bulb is just out.

That's the headlight or turn signal -- front, right side (passenger side in left-hand drive cars).
