today i found a strange problem of my 2004 bmw 325i.
there was 2 muffler , but i find there was only one work, only one i touched was hot , the other was cold , can sb tell me what is this mean, normal or a problem.
do you mean two exhaust tips and only one was warm? or two different mufflers as well? either way that means that the exhaust is only going through one of the two. i used to have this old car that had two exhaust tips but one was for looks, it was actually welded onto the muffler just besides the tip that worked. this could be the case for you as well..one might just be welded on there for looks. if this is not the case (because i don't see why a brand new car would have a false exhaust tip or muffler) something could be jammed in there or just something is in there blocking the exhaust gasses from going through that side. unfortunately i don't know all too much about cars so there could be some other problem that someone might know as well...hope this helps at least a little.

you are right, you know , my english is not good,i mean that 2 stanless pipe in the end of the car. i toughed 1 is hot and with air goes out , but the other isnot.
i think that could be a problem, i will call the dealer and let you know the results
Mine does that too. If you look in the one that is not hot...you will see a valve. Its really wierd but it seems liek the engine can open and close that valve and that it is just for airflow or something. Im still going to go get mine checked but i think each of the two mufflers are for different purposes.

My 2003 has the same exhaust symptom, any answers yet as to why? The car has developed a rough idle on ocassion and I check the exhaust for sound and noticed that only the driver side pipe was active.
what the ..thats strange i have a 2003 330i and both of them are boiling when i drive..hmmm thats an interesting topic i would like to know why so many people experience that
The muffler is made of filters and membranes. If we assure the second outlet (cool one) is not for decoration, there should have some jamming at the cool one. It seems that there is no other solution other than going to the repairing shop.
Ummm im kinda an E30 owner, but I might have some information on this. I recall reading up on this not to long ago at all, maybe 2 days or so, but the later BMW's have that as part of the muffler, but when you drive, the harder you drive the valve thing in the second tip opens up to let the air flow freer, but closes when idle to make the car quieter. You will probably get the same information from the dealer, but its worth a try to get it checked out. Anyways, I hope that helps =)
I've heard the same thing and as far as engine management goes it's nothing new to restrict the "vaccum" at lower speeds adding to the richness of the AF mixture, therefore producing not only stronger but cleaner torque. Hope this helps. Mine will stay cool after everyday drives but when I rhomp it both are hot.
