i just had xenons installed on my 2003 330ci. when i look in the front, each headlight had two fat round lights in it. now that the xenons are in,the outer lights are the ones that light up when i turn the lights on. correct me if im wrong but,i could of swore that the lights thats suppose to come on are the inside ones. i thought the out side ones were brights. i never paid attention to my old lights so im not sure which is the head light and which is the brights. can somebody tell me which bulb is the headlight and which one is the brights? thanks for the help guys.
outside lights are always driving lights inside ones are for High beams. sometimes cars manufactures will use the highbeams for daytime driving lamps bmw does this because mine are like this

sigh...i just got screwed buying a $600 pair of xenons that sucks. anybody have any idea of a good brand of after market xenon lights for a 330ci? i wish i had the money to get the oem parts but alas...its too expensive. i can only shell out about $1000. anybody know of a good after market xenon for bmw's and where to get them at? thanks in advance for all the help.
I believe that the inside lights are the bright ones (others have confirmed this on this forum) - and this is what is happening with you as well.....so why do they suck???
lets get this straight. your inside are day time lights, they run without you turning them on. the outside are your normal low beam bulbs. and the inside are also used for high beam

i have a question, do all E46 models have daytime running lights? or is that something you have to ask th dealer to activate, that is if it is just something that the OBC has control over?

Yes, all E46 can have the Daytime Running Lights turned on by the dealer. You can also have them turn 'on': Auto Door locking, Car/Key memory, Having the parking lights turn on when you unlock, etc.
It costs about $30, but will vary from dealer to dealer...
If you have halogen lights:
- Outside lights are your regular low beam lights.
- Inside lights are daytime running lights, high beam lights and the lights you use to "flash" someone with.
If you have bi-xenons:
- Outside lights are regular low beam lights and your high-beam lights (there's a mirror that converts low-beam to high-beam)
- Inside lights are daytime running lights and "flash" lights. This is because xenon's take longer to get to full intensity and therefore are not suitable to flash someone with.
Daytime running lights are enabled by default on all cars sold by BMWNA but you can ask the dealer to disable them. Daytime running lights are basically the same as your halogen high beams but with about 50% intensity (to save bulb life).
Hi-
I'm planning on selling a pair (set) of BMW factory xenon lights. Having too much trouble getting it to work on my '03 325i sedan. It's flickering when I start the engine but fine if the engine is off...Not sure what to do. So I'm planning on going back to my stock halogens unless I get some sort of solution.
So if you're interested in purchasing or have tips on how I can get my xenons to work, let me know!!
