So... i got 2 keys when I bought my beemer, and one didn't work. I figured it needed a battery - since this is my first Beemer I didnt' know they charged themselves. So I drove it around for a while, and it still didn't work, the red light flashed though and that's when I realized this key is brand new. I think the dealer just had one key, so they had this one cut for me, and just never programmed it.

Do I need to go to the dealer to have it programmed or can you do it yourself? This is the "old school" key for the 99.

Thanks

Either you have to take it to the dealer or just have it programmed by your own.
You need to program both keys one after the other in order to work.
Procedure is: Put the master key on the ignition and turn it to the position two.
After that quickly turn off and keep pressed the unlock button.
While you do that press the lock button three times and wait for the key to program.
Do the same with the second key.
