The manual indicates a number of functions that can be programmed by the dealer, such as Daytime Running Light, auto lock doors after 8MPH.
Are these options programmable by us, or do we need to go to the dealer for these changes? I'm fairly good technically, so I'm up to the challenge if someone knows how to do this.
I don't believe this is something you can do yourself - I've heard the dealer uses a specific computer with specific software to re-program your settings.
When I bought my '01 325i in 6/03, the daytime running lights were programmed on. The 2 closest dealers to me charged $47.50 & $48.00, respectively, to turn off the daytime running lights. When/if you take it in, they should ask you about a # of different settings (seat functions, power doorlocks unlocking all doors or just the drivers door, etc.) that you can have changed all at the same time/price.
Sheesh, I'm working for the wrong dealer. We do that for free. I hate doing crap for free, time is money. We usually let our hourly twits do that stuff......hehehehe. :P
The dealer needs to do it. They have a sheet with all the options. Check off what you want activated or deactivated. You can customize the setting for each key if you wish.
It only takes a few minutes.
You got a new car so the dealer shouldn't charge anything for the initial settings.
You need them to do it. I use the drl's for safety, and the auto door locks, because I like the reaction I get from passengers when they hear the doors "click"
at about 5mph. The side view mirror drop down in reverse can also be custom set, but mine has a short in it so dealer has new one on order.
