Power Steering Problem! Help Needed!

Fellas,

All of a sudden Today , i'm having steering Problem on my 2001 325i BMW.It has 40K Mileage on the car.It's really hard to turn the steering in Drive/Reverse mode when started.In fact i had driven few miles today without any problem and then when i parked and restarted later i am seeing this problem.It does not make tweaty sounds though nor i could see any lights ON on the dashboard.The full service was completed an year ago.I had problem with the hoses sometime ago and the mechanic fixed it.

Did anyone in this forums have had this Problem or any idea why this is happening?? Any idea of the cost at the dealership or a mechanic.

Any help/suggestions is appreciated!!

Start by checking the fluid level in the reservoir under the hood. If its low top it off and see if you get your steering back. You may need to get it back to the shop for diagnosis.

You might of broken a belt (not sure, but there is a power steering belt, I think)

close! but the only belt driven component that has its own belt on the m54/52/tu is the compressor. you may need to bleed the power steering system if the fluid is low. also take down your underbody panel (plasitc) and see if there are any fluid stains.

to bleed your ps system, start the car and turn the wheel from lock to lock (all the way left to all the way right) checking fluid level intermedietly.
