Power problem - BMW Forum

Hi, I have 318i coupe.

On monday my car would not start it turned over but would not fire up the engine, looking in the engine bay i found the lead to the Mass air flow meter had come out i plugged this back in and the car started fine but now it's not driving very well, it has a real lack of power, when i accelerate the car seems to pull back and seems to have hardly any power even when i have the accelerater to the floor, the car seems to drive a bit better when i just drive slowly and do not really put my foot down. the car ran perfect before this. any help would be great.

Welcome to the Werkz.

Try removing the MAF lead again. If the engine wont start with the lead off, start the engine and then remove the lead to see what happens. The lack of performance could be related to a faulty MAF, but the EMU will normally go into a default mode if the MAF is missing (rather than faulty). You can try cleaning your MAF element with Brake Cleaner spary, but you need to remove it from the car first, give it a good spary with and see if that helps at all. Let us know how you go.

I removed the lead and started the car it started fine and all the power is back with no lead in the MAF so is this a faulty MAF?
