Remember, it was in fact Diamler-Benz that took over Chrysler, not the other way around. The recall is for their new and very complex "brake by wire" system. This is only available on E-Class, S-Class, and Maybach models... it has nothing to do with the American companies at all. I drove a friend's E500-Sport and HATED the brakes. They are so hard to stop smoothly it was unbelievable. I considered a C-Class before buying the 325i, but could not trust the dodgy quality on the new Mercs. Trust me, I am NOT an American car fan, just wanted to set the record straight.
