Oil Change - BMW Forum

Just bought the wife a 2006 325i. Free service for the first 4 years including oil changes. But the intervals between changes are 12,000 miles. Anit that just grand!

I drive a E36 325i and the service lights are looking like I'll be going close to 12,000 before I need to change again, must be the synthetic I switched to and what the new Beemers come standard with.

The sales lady told me the E90 doesn't have a drain plug or a dip stick. Whatcha think of that?

Okay if the E90s dont have dipsticks or anything ....thats just whack!

Besides that fact I would never wait for the full 12000 miles before change.......I change the oil at 7000 miles.....period.....synthetic shmyntetic.......oil is oil and it will burn and I dont care what they say.....I am not comfortable with keeping it there for 12,000 miles

. Now having said that since your warranty covers oil changes I doubt they will agree to do it earlier than that for free. I have a used car and I am more worried about the engine so I change it more regularly. Went to my local dealer yesterday for a oil change and he agreed with me but ofcourse would not be official about it. He showed me a SAAb in his garage that had its engine stalll cause the owner used the factory recommended intervals....not that it will happen to every car...but whats the harm in changing oil at 7000? Its just 50 bucks more. Thats my 0.02 on bimmer oil change policy...

I change my oil and filter at 7500. My car is out of warranty. when I purchased it the oil was BLACK. ANd it had every service bmw "recomended" I have the papers. maybe 15000 is ok if you get a new one before the warranty is out and don't heave to pay for a repair. Heck any oil would probably last 40,000 miles without changing it for that matter. My 1985 chevy cavalier had clean oil in it at 80,000 miles when it was totaled in 1990. My 1999 BMW deserves the same.
