2000323ci is an unknown quantity at this point
i just bought a 2000 323ci, and i really need to change the oil, i've never owned a bimmer so how do i change oil and filter. or would i be better off taking it to a bmw dealer.

If you never done it,go to some place where they let you watch them while they do that job.then next time you gonna be confident to do it your self.BTW in Canada BMW stealership charge for basic oil change the same as any good import cars repair shop!

I changed my oil & filter fairly easily with an oil extractor, but here is a link for the regular way:

Mobil 1 5w-30 is not BMW LL rated. It is also onlu ACEA A1 rated.
The only Mobil 1 oil that is BMW rated is the ow-40 european car formula.

You should check Autozone for German made Castrol 0w-30, it is BMW LL01 rated.
The Castrol 0w-30 made in Germany is A3 rated for longer oil change intervals and it will not thin out of grade as easily as Mobil 1.
